Getting started

  1. Create an account
  2. Add the scribe bot to your discord server
  3. Create a new book with the add book command: /scribe-add-book
  4. Run the /scribe-assign-dunegon-master command to let scribe know which discord user is the dungeon master for a session
  5. Add your characters with the add character command: /scribe-add-character. Assigning discord server members to characters lets scribe know who is talking so it can attribute dialog to the right characters.
  6. Run the /scribe-listen command and select the voice channel to listen to and the book to write to. Scribe will post to the text channel you run the command in as it transcribes your game.
  7. When you're done run the /scribe-stop-listening command. This will end the current chapter of your book and summarize it.

FAQs

  • Can I start using Scribe?

Scribe is currently in invite only beta. If you'd like to try him out, please join the wait list. If you're interested in helping to test Scribe and can tolerate some bugs and rough edges, please contact us through the discord server.

  • Does Scribe cost money?

While in limited beta Scribe is free. That will likely change after limited beta. Scribe uses a number of paid technologies under the hood. Part of the goal of beta is to understand how much operating Scribe costs and potential ways to reduce that cost. Once that is clear any pricing changes will be communicated to all users.

  • Does Scribe make mistakes?

Yes. The technologies Scribe relies on to transcribe and rewrite conversations is powerful, but he's still new and does make mistakes. Scribe does have manual editing tools, so you can clean up any errors he makes. Scribe does signficantly better when characters are assigned to discord members and the dungeon master is set. It can still work without assigning users, or if you're using a shared mic, but he will make more mistakes.

  • Does Scribe learn?

Yes. If you use the manual editing tools to fix mistakes or improve what Scribe wrote, those edits may be used in the future to make Scribe better.
